Sell ME
This project demonstrates the current exploitative environment the music industry bullies artists into. Whether it’s shady contracts, undervaluing work, or poor compensation structures, musicians are faced with a nearly impossible minefield of obstacles in order to achieve success. Even well known artists struggle to own the rights to their own music, marrying robbery and the music industry into synonyms. This book uses a “takes one to know one” mentality by stealing references from well known graphic designers and publications, copying their image and ideas, and claiming them as my own. All language has been changed to articles and song lyrics mentioning labels, agents, and companies mistreating artists. This mode of burglary within publication reflects but one of many hurdles musicians face in their field by blurring the lines between intellectual property and compensation.
Steal ME
This attached miniature booklet contains every reference I used for “Sell Me”. The publication is meant to be explored by turning the pages of “Steal Me” and “Sell Me” simultaneously as it reveals the largely unavoidable and uncanny similarities between the two.
